Mean Field Equilibria for Resource Competition in Spatial Settings

چکیده
We study a model of competition among nomadic agents for timevarying and location-specific resources, arising in crowd-sourced transportation services, online communities, and traditional location-based economic activity. This model comprises a group of agents and a single location endowed with a dynamic stochastic resource process. Periodically, each agent derives a reward determined by the location’s resource level and the number of other agents there, and has to decide whether to stay at the location or move. Upon moving, the agent arrives at a different location whose dynamics are independent and identical to the original location. Using the methodology of mean field equilibrium, we study the equilibrium behavior of the agents as a function of the dynamics of the stochastic resource process and the nature of the competition among co-located agents. We show that an equilibrium exists, where each agent decides whether to switch locations based only on their current location’s resource level and the number of other agents there. We additionally show that when an agent’s payoff is decreasing in the number of other agents at her location, equilibrium strategies obey a simple threshold structure. We show how to exploit this structure to compute equilibria numerically, and use these numerical techniques to study how system structure affects the agents’ collective ability to explore their domain to find and effectively utilize resource-rich areas.

DYNAMIC COMPLEXITY OF A THREE SPECIES COMPETITIVE FOOD CHAIN MODEL WITH INTER AND INTRA SPECIFIC COMPETITIONS
The present article deals with the inter specific competition and intra-specific competition among predator populations of a prey-dependent three component food chain model consisting of two competitive predator sharing one prey species as their food. The behaviour of the system near the biologically feasible equilibria is thoroughly analyzed. Boundedness and dissipativeness of the system are e...
متن کاملNonparametric Estimation of Spatial Risk for a Mean Nonstationary Random Field}
The common methods for spatial risk estimation are investigated for a stationary random field. Because of simplifying, lets distribution is known, and parametric variogram for the random field are considered. In this paper, we study a nonparametric spatial method for spatial risk. In this method, we model the random field trend by a local linear estimator, and through bias-corrected residuals, ...
متن کاملStrategic Behaviour in International Metallurgical Coal Markets
This paper analyses whether prices and trade-flows in the international market for metallurgical coals were subject to non-competitive conduct in the period 2008 to 2010. To do so, I develop mathematical programming models – a Stackelberg model, two varieties of a Cournot model, and a perfect competition model – for computing spatial equilibria in international resource markets. Results are ana...
متن کاملClassical and resource-based competition: a unifying graphical approach.
A graphical technique is given for determining the outcome of two species competition for two resources. This method is unifying in the sense that the graphical criterion leading to the various outcomes of competition are consistent across most of the spectrum of resource types (from those that fulfill the same growth needs to those that fulfill different needs) regardless of the classification...
متن کاملElectoral Strategy and Economic Policy
This paper develops an approach to political equilibrium in a twoparty setting. The approach characterizes political resource allocation as trading o¤ the utility of core party supporters and swing voters, i.e. those who are not attached to either party. The model has three stages. First parties determine their electoral strategies. Second, an election is held. Third, policy is chosen. To illus...
